St. John of the Cross once said, "The object of all virtues is to bring us into union with God, in which alone is laid up all the happiness that can be enjoyed in this world."

Parents and grandparents long for happiness for their offspring. But in a world riddled with vice, such happiness can seem elusive.

What is necessary is a teaching tool that can help children master virtue so that they can experience the peace of living in concert with Christ.

Virtues of the Saints: 15 Heavenly Habits for Children (Marian Press, 2025) is a remarkable resource for educating young people about the best way to live. Authors Fr. Donald H. Calloway, MIC and Patrick O'Hearn have crafted a delightful book which makes learning about the virtues fun.

Whether writing about Our Lady's humility, St. Joseph's justice, or Carlo Acutis' temperance, the authors make the saints and their virtues come alive in these beautifully-illustrated pages.

My co-worker is pregnant, due this summer, and I cannot wait to introduce Virtues of the Saints to her so that she can in turn share it with her little one.

Given Adalee Hude's heavenly illustrations, this is the type of book that I can envision children turning to again and again for cozy bedtime storytelling.

Please consider adding Virtues of the Saints to the reading lists of the young people in your life. Chances are they will come away from the book with a greater appreciation of the good traits which can lead them ever closer to God.
