I am partial to the Civil War era when it comes to literature, and this book did not disappoint! While I am not the most avid fiction reader, I found myself drawn into this story of love and battle and of two characters on a collision course with history.

The author does an outstanding job weaving historical fact into the plotline, which gives the story a distinct feeling of authenticity. Lauer draws the reader into her imaginative world with both grit and grace.
